Methylphenidate is a piperidine-derivative CNS stimulant that has pharmacologic actions that are qualitatively similar to those of amphetamines.

Methylphenidate is used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methylphenidate also is used in the symptomatic treatment of narcolepsy.
