MOEXIPRIL HCL (moexipril hcl)

Drug overview for MOEXIPRIL HCL (moexipril hcl):

Generic name: MOEXIPRIL HCL (moe-EX-i-pril)
Drug class: Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors
Therapeutic class: Cardiovascular Therapy Agents

Moexipril hydrochloride is a nonsulfhydryl angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor.

Moexipril hydrochloride is used alone or in combination with other classes of antihypertensive agents (e.g., thiazide diuretics) in the management of hypertension. Because captopril, another angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, may cause serious adverse effects (e.g., neutropenia, agranulocytosis), particularly in patients with renal impairment (especially those with collagen vascular disease) or in patients receiving immunosuppressive therapy, the possibility that similar adverse effects may occur with moexipril should be considered since current experience is insufficient to rule out such risk. (See Cautions: Hematologic Effects, in Captopril 24:32.04.)
