MECHANISM OF ACTION: Heavy metal ions may inactivate collagenase(1) and papain(2-10). CLINICAL EFFECTS: Application of heavy metal ions such as lead, mercury, and silver may inactivate collagenase(1) and papain,(2-8) limiting their effectiveness. PREDISPOSING FACTORS: None determined.
