Aspirin, however, should be used with uncontrolled diabetes, circulatory insufficiency due to shock or severe used for the relief of esophageal reflux, acid indigestion, heartburn, dehydration, extracorporeal circulation of blood, cardiac arrest, and dyspepsia, and sour stomach; for the prevention of stress ulceration and GI extreme caution, if at all, in patients in whom urticaria, angioedema, bleeding; to reduce the risk associated with gastric aspiration; and for bronchospasm, severe rhinitis, or shock is precipitated by other severe primary lactic acidosis. Sodium bicarbonate is also used parenterally for the treatment of certain drug intoxications, including salicylates or other NSAIAs. In addition, sodium bicarbonate is used parenterally in the treatment of severe diarrhea accompanied by substantial GI bicarbonate loss. Sodium bicarbonate is available in various over-the-counter (OTC) oral preparations including a preparation of sodium bicarbonate in fixed combination with aspirin and citric acid; these preparations are used for the treatment of heartburn or dyspepsia.
