For self-medication for dermatologic conditions in adults and pediatric patients, reconstituted or diluted aluminum acetate solutions containing 0.13-0.5% aluminum acetate generally are used.
Aluminum acetate solution should be applied topically to the affected area of the skin as a wet dressing or compress or used as a soak. All commercially available topical aluminum acetate preparations are for external use only. Contact with the eyes should be avoided. Aluminum acetate topical solution should be kept out of the reach of children; if ingested, a local poison control center should be contacted immediately.
